An action flick with a healthy dose of laughs and a sprinkling of notable stars in its cast gives the film the perfect recipe to quickly become a fan favorite. The Man from Toronto falls into the action, comedy, and thriller genres and is thus on its way to becoming a must-see movie for moviegoers. Genre veterans Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson cast in the lead roles make the film even more promising. Both Hart and Harrelson have a proven track record of mastering the action-comedy genre.

The Man from Toronto was initially announced in January 2020 by Sony Pictures Entertainment. However, Variety reported in April 2022 that Netflix had acquired the rights to the film. The film, written by Robbie Fox and Chris Bremner, is directed by Patrick Hughes. Hughes has also directed many other notable films including The Expendables 3 and The Hitman’s Bodyguard. With the impressive team behind The Man from Toronto, the film is set to be one of the most unlikely buddy action movies of 2022. As of now, details about the film are pretty scant, but this is all we know.

Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson’s action comedy “The Man From Toronto” is headed to Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively. The Sony Pictures production, originally slated for an August theatrical release, was sold in a worldwide rights deal to the broadcaster in all territories except China. The transfer falls under the exclusive first-look deal Sony signed with Netflix last year, on the heels of its notable window deal with the tech giant in 2021.

The film revolves around a case of mistaken identity after the world’s deadliest killer, known as the “Man from Toronto” (Harrelson), and a stranger (played by Hart) meet at an Airbnb. Chaos soon follows as the killer’s world comes crashing down on Hart. Netflix will release the film later this year.

Sony’s deal with Netflix adds to the studio’s entire movie slate. Upcoming theatrical titles include Brad Pitt’s “Bullet Train,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Where the Crawdads Sing,” “The Woman King” and “Madame Web.”

Kaley Cuoco, Jasmine Mathews, Lela Loren, Pierson Fode, Jencarlos Canela and Ellen Barkin star alongside Hart and Harrelson. Patrick Hughes is directing. His credits include “The Raid”, “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” and “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”.

Robbie Fox and Chris Bremner wrote the script. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing along with executive producers Bill Bannerman, Aaron L. Gilbert and Jason Cloth.

Announced last April, Netflix won an industry-wide auction for the rights to Sony’s “pay one” movie post-window, previously owned by Starz. Included in the deal was a first-look deal that will see Tom Rothman’s film group make movies exclusively for streaming. Netflix will also have the right to run select titles from Sony’s vault library.
