Series creator Loren Bouchard is directing the film with Bernard Derriman, based on a screenplay he wrote with Nora Smith. The big-screen animated musical will give more insight into Bob’s origin story with his parents, in particular his mother.

The film was originally scheduled to be released in the summer of 2020, but the pandemic forced Disney and 20th Century Studios to delay it several times. Ultimately, Bouchard was determined that the film would be released on the big screen rather than on a streaming platform.
