“Shotgun Wedding 2022” a romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel, is forgoing a traditional theatrical release and heading to Amazon Prime Video instead.

Lionsgate, which produced “Shotgun Wedding” and intended to release the film in theaters, sold the rights to the US broadcast. Prime Video previously acquired international rights to the love-action comedy in several key territories.

“Shotgun Wedding” was scheduled to hit the big screen on June 29, but it’s now unclear when the film will hit Prime Video. Since release plans haven’t been finalized, sources say there’s a chance the film will be available in select theaters on the same day as its digital debut.

Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum’s jungle-set love story “The Lost City” has managed to sell tickets, but that movie may be more of an anomaly. Earlier this year, Lopez’s musical romantic comedy “Marry Me” grossed $49 million at the worldwide box office while being simulcast on NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock. According to insider sources, Amazon made an irresistible offer to get the rights to “Shotgun Wedding” from Lionsgate. By launching a streaming service, the company can avoid the scrutiny that comes with box office information.

Jason Moore directed “Shotgun Wedding,” in which Lopez and Duhamel play partners who bring their families together for a destination wedding. But as the couple begins to get cold feet, the entire wedding party is taken hostage. The cast also includes Jennifer Coolidge, Sonia Braga, Cheech Marin, Selena Tan, and Lenny Kravitz.

News breaks that Amazon Prime Video has acquired the US rights to Shotgun Wedding from Lionsgate. The film was scheduled to be released on June 29, and while it’s unclear if that’s still the case now that it’s hosted on Amazon, Shotgun Wedding is still expected to have a limited theatrical run at the same time it’s available to stream with. an Amazon Prime subscription. Amazon had previously secured the streaming rights to Shotgun Wedding in a few “key” international territories, and the film will be released theatrically in those locations as well.

Armie Hammer was previously slated to star alongside Lopez, but she dropped out of the film last year following allegations of sexual abuse and controversy on social media.
