Disney Plus has released the first trailer for “Obi-Wan Kenobi 2022” the new “Star Wars” limited series set to premiere on May 25.
Set between the events of the prequel trilogy and the original “Star Wars” trilogy, “Obi-Wan Kenobi 2022” stars Ewan McGregor as the famed Jedi Master and former mentor of Anakin before his young Padawan was become Darth Vader. Ten years after the massacre of Order 66, Kenobi lives on Tatooine and cares for future hero Luke Skywalker, when a new adventure reunites him with Anakin (Hayden Christensen).
The trailer opens with Obi-Wan lounging in the sand dunes of Tatooine keeping an eye on a young Luke, who lives with his uncle Owen and aunt Beru. “Stay hidden,” he says, as the iconic “Duel of the Fates” theme from “Phantom Menace” plays.
Like “The Mandalorian” and “Book of Boba Fett” before it, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” will bring previously animated “Star Wars” characters into live action, this time with the Grand Inquisitor, the main antagonist in “Star Wars.” Wars Rebels”. .” Rupert Friend will play the villain, who is tasked by Emperor Palpatine to hunt down the surviving Jedi. “The Queen’s Gambit” actor Moses Ingram also plays an Inquisitor named Reva, who is in pursuit of Obi-Wan and wields a red lightsaber in the trailer. Aside from brief vocal cameos in 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker,” this will be the first time McGregor and Christensen have reprized their “Star Wars” roles since 2005’s “Revenge of the Sith.” Christensen will also appear in “Ahsoka.” , another “Star Wars” miniseries scheduled for 2023.
The ensemble cast includes Joel Edgerton, Benny Safdie, Kumail Nanjiani, Moses Ingram, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Indira Varma and Rupert Friend. “Obi-Wan” will be directed by Deborah Chow, who previously directed two episodes of “The Mandalorian.”

The series is written by Joby Harold and directed by Deborah Chow, who also serve as executive producers. Chow previously directed two episodes in the first season of “The Mandalorian.” McGregor is an executive producer along with Kathleen Kennedy and Michelle Rejwan.
The trailer shows Moses Ingram as the Jedi-hunting Imperial Inquisitor Reva and what appears to be Rupert Friend as the Grand Inquisitor, and it appears that Sung Kang is playing the Fifth Brother. Dark Side wielding Inquisitors were previously seen in the CGI animated series Rebels and in the video game Jedi: Fallen Order; his fortress from the end of the game is also featured in the trailer.
