In Not Okay 2022 film, Danni Sanders (Deutch), an aimless aspiring writer with no friends, no romantic prospects and, worst of all, no followers, fakes an Instagrammable trip to Paris in hopes of increasing her influence on the internet. social networks. When a terrifying incident hits the City of Lights, Danni inadvertently falls for a lie bigger than she ever imagined. She “comes back” as a hero, even striking up an unlikely friendship with Rowan, a true trauma survivor dedicated to social change, and picking up the man of her dreams, Colin (Dylan O’Brien). As an influencer and advocate, Danni finally has the life and audience she’s always wanted. But it’s only a matter of time before the facade is broken, and she learns the hard way that the internet loves takedowns.
Searchlight and Deutch’s partnership continues to grow as this marks the second project the two parties are working on, as the studio also picked up The Hound spec with Deutch attached to star last January. The very busy Deutch was recently seen on Buffaloed, which also produced and starred in the second season of Netflix’s The Politician. She also just wrapped production on The Outfit alongside Mark Rylance and Dylan O’Brien. Other credits include Max Winkler’s Flower and Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some.
“This film contains an unpleasant female lead. Viewer discretion is advised,” says a voice as a giant red warning sign fills the screen. The statement definitely rings true in the trailer, which was released on June 21. Zoey Deutch stars as Danni, an influencer who has gone viral for all the wrong reasons. “Have you ever wanted to be noticed so much, you didn’t even care what she was for?” Danni asks in voiceover. We also see photos of people on the internet dragging Danni and her behavior.
Fox Searchlight shared the following description of the film: “Danni Sanders (Zoey Deutch), an aspiring writer with no direction, no friends, no romantic prospects and, worst of all, no followers, fakes an Instagram-friendly trip to Paris.
