Paramount+ is throwing its hat into the arena of fun, senior-themed movies and trying to beef up its young adult catalogue. Earlier this year, Netflix released Senior Year, a movie starring Rebel Wilson about a girl who falls into a coma during her senior year of high school. When she wakes up, she wants to finish what she never could. Paramount’s addition to last year’s movie lineup is Honor Society. The film will follow Honor (Angourie Rice) as she tries to beat her opponent Michael (Gaten Matarazzo) for a letter of recommendation to Harvard.

Deadline confirmed that the film would arrive in January 2022, which means it was a quick turnaround time from its green light to its release. But, not having to add Demogorgons probably saves some post-production time. David A. Goodman wrote the film while Oran Zegman directed it. This is Zegman’s first directing piece that is not a short film. Goodman has been an executive producer and writer on The Orville, Family Guy and American Dad!. Honor Society executive producers include Don Dunn (Light as a Feather, iCarly), Ron French (Fear the Walking Dead), and Syrinthia Studer.

The main plot of the new Honor Society movie is about a high school senior trying to get a recommendation from her guidance counselor Mr. Calvin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) to get into Harvard. Things go awry when she tries to eliminate her main competitors, only to win the affection of one of them in the process.

She not only wants the recommendation to Harvard, but she wants to be the first to receive it from this specific advisor (who has Harvard connections) among her peers, making this not just a competition, but a race for time. Willing to do whatever it takes, Honor comes up with a plan to defeat not one, not two, but her top three student competitors, but falling into her biggest competition, things get messy, to say the least. least.

Honor Rose, the title character, is written to be versatile, quick-witted, and most of all, the face of the “perfect student,” complete with excellent grades, a philanthropic streak, and plenty of extracurricular activities lining her resume.

This movie is just one of many that seem to be throwing back to the “YA novel” types of the mid-2000s, and the overall feel is both relatable and light-hearted for students who are in the same age group as the characters in the movies. . It’s also a return to the blockbusters of the summer, after the movie industry saw a drop in ticket sales with the arrival of the pandemic.
