Stars: Sharron Matthews, Ted Atherton, Jessica B. Hill

Apple TV+ has unveiled the first trailer for Five Days at Memorial 2022, the upcoming limited series from Carlton Cuse and John Ridley. Based on true events and the book of the same name by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Sheri Fink, the drama tells the story of the exhausted staff at a New Orleans hospital as they deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The series is based on true events that chronicle the impact of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath on a local hospital. When the waters rose, the power went out and the heat soared, exhausted caregivers at a New Orleans hospital were forced to make decisions that would follow them for years to come.

The series is based on the book of the same name by journalist Sheri Fink, in which she examines the questionable and impossible decisions made at Memorial Medical Center when the New Orleans hospital was overwhelmed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The book further seeks to answer whether the hospital’s medical staff intentionally euthanized critically ill patients after they had been trapped in the hospital for days.

Fink’s book has been a coveted intellectual property. It was first acquired by Scott Rudin to be made into a film, however the project did not pan out. Ryan Murphy picked up the later rights for a limited series adaptation, and more recently, the book became source material for American Crime Story: Katrina, which was then in the works, all to no avail, until now.

Five Days At Memorial comes from ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios. It is created by Academy Award winner John Ridley and Emmy Award winner Carlton Cuse. The series is directed by Cuse, Ridley and Wendey Stanzler (For All Mankind, Dispatches From Elsewhere).

The Apple TV series stars Emmy Award nominee Vera Farmiga, Robert Pine and Emmy Award winner Cherry Jones (Transparent, Succession) in the lead roles. Alongside Julie Ann Emery (Better Call Saul, Preacher), Cornelius Smith Jr. (Scandal), Adepero Oduye (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Pariah), Molly Hager (Happyish, It’s Kind of a Funny Story), Michael Gaston ( Blindspot, The Leftovers) and W. Earl Brown (Deadwood).
